Notes: | Based on the professional experiences and observations of the author over ten years of conducting the Men’s Family Violence and Anger Management Program in Lilydale, Victoria, this report provides the reader with some general information about the prevalence and nature of family violence in the local area, the consequences of family violence for the community and the role of specialist services in preventing and reducing violence. A background to Anglicare and the programme is presented and the key facets of the model for working with perpetrators are outlined. A list of advantages of group-based programmes for men who are violent is included The financial costs to the Yarra Ranges, Knox and Maroondah communities arising from family violence and the capacity of interventions like the Anger Management Program to diminish those costs are explained in order to highlight the importance of continued funding for the project. Evaluation data based on responses by male participants in the programme and their partners are presented in conclusion. |
