Outlines the aims, methodology and findings of a pilot research project directed at ascertaining the needs of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds involved with supported accommodation services in Western Australia. An overview of previous research in this and related areas and the various policy and service initiatives aimed at addressing the issue is also provided. The project utilised both quantitative and qualitative research methods and the data obtained indicate both similarities and differences in the experiences of children from CALD and mainstream backgrounds. The need for more age-specific, holistic service responses is identified and a range of recommendations for service/policy reform is made.
