A meta-evaluation of the first phase of the Australian Government’s ‘Partnerships Against Domestic Violence’ (PADV) initiative was conducted in 2003. "Domestic Violence: Working with Men" represents one in a series of 6 reports on the outcomes and findings of this meta-evaluation. Essentially the report provides a background to the incidence, prevalence and explanations for domestic violence, the implications these explanations have for work with perpetrators, the economic costs of violence and key areas identified as priorities for service and policy development, before outlining central issues associated with and developments occurring in the area of working with men. Specific service areas for men, such as prevention and intervention, are identified and a brief overview of why work in these areas is important is provided and the specific programmes funded by PADV are outlined. Implications of the findings of the meta-evaluation with respect to policy and service provision are also presented.
