The report organises its findings according to the type of crime, such as homicide, assault and sexual assault, and addresses both the tangible and intangible losses involved with each. Research methodologies used in the UK and the US are employed to extrapolate to the Australian situation. Additional costs to the criminal justice system, welfare system, security industries and insurance administration are also discussed.
