Provides a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the findings of a recent telephone survey of older adult victims of abuse and/or witnesses of elder abuse conducted by the Advocare Abuse Prevention Program in Western Australia. The report begins by setting out the methodology and limitations of the research before identifying key statistical trends and qualitative themes that have emerged from the findings. Some of the central concerns raised included the paucity of legal services specifically targeted at older victims of abuse, the multiple forms of disadvantage experienced by older people from NESB or ATSI backgrounds and/or older refugees, and the role of alcohol/substance abuse in the perpetration of violence. A series of recommendations is also made.
