Notes:  This report presents the policy positions of the Australian Federation of Homelessness Organisations concerning the official response to domestic and family violence issues. According to data provided by the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP), most of SAAP’s female clients cite domestic violence as the cause for seeking assistance. In order to propose improvements, a range of themes is addressed. The policy platform tackles prevention strategies, early intervention programmes, the role of the police and legal responses. Children’s services, refuges and shelters, and perpetrator programmes are also described and assessed. Recommendations to prevent women and their children from leaving their homes are discussed. In addition, issues regarding sexual assault are included.
