Report outlines the work undertaken by the Broken Hill and Menindee Rural Crisis Intervention Projects, including a summary of evaluation findings and a Model of Best Practice. The projects were funded to provide support to women experiencing domestic violence, to strengthen relationships with key Government and non-Government services responding to domestic violence, and to deliver outreach to women and children who may not access local services. Provides insight into the difficulties experienced by Indigenous women in accessing appropriate supports. Evaluation of the projects highlights that, as a consequence of the intensive efforts of project workers, there has been an enormous increase in the level of service and support to Aboriginal victims of domestic violence; and an increased understanding of domestic violence, resulting in referrals from the community to the projects and better working relationships between support agencies. The Model for Best Practice provides direction about key principles and strategies required to work with Indigenous communities in rural and remote locations.
