No. HOU 61 Based on research conducted by the Supported Accommodation Assistance Scheme Data Collection Agency, this report provides an overview of the extent and types of assistance given to clients by the scheme, a typology of client groups and the reasons they seek support, as well as a summary of the overall effectiveness of the scheme in improving client circumstances. Assistance given to accompanying children is also quantified and the kinds of support most commonly provided are identified. The findings indicate the most common reasons people seek assistance from the scheme are domestic or family violence, eviction or the ending of previous accommodation, and relationship or family breakdown and financial difficulty. Reasons differ significantly for men and women, with more women citing the first reason. Although more females (48,400) than males (41,200) received services, a greater number of support periods were provided to males seeking accommodation than to females. A total of 19% of all those seeking support were women with accompanying children.
