Notes:  General Overview: This ACT report presents the results of all incidents recorded in 2003 – 2004 on the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Family Violence Intervention Program (FVIP) database.

Objective: The report seeks to provide an analysis of recorded incidents from the FVIP, which aims to give a best practice model for criminal justice intervention in family violence incidents.

Discussion: This report’s structure and focus of analysis are based on the previous analysis of 2002 – 2003 data. A series of graphs and figures are provided, including for:

* 79% of offenders were male, while 25% of victims were male
* 23% of offenders were affected by alcohol, while only 5% of victims were affected by alcohol
* 1,625 children (aged 17 or less) were recorded as being present in 44% of all incidents
* of child victims, 60% were female and 40% were male.
Conclusions: Comparisons between 2001 – 2002, 2002 – 2003 and 2003 – 2004 were affected by differences in data recording and missing data. It found that family violence was most prevalent between ex-spouses and spouses (52% of incident relationships).
