General overview:This report presents the first study in Australia to examine in detail the ways agencies and practitioners in the child protection and domestic violence sectors respond to children affected by domestic violence.

Some factors identified as facilitating collaboration include: child protection workers to place more emphasis on the effects on children from witnessing domestic violence and to encourage women to report this; domestic violence training for child protection workers; promotion of maternal alienation as a form of domestic violence related child abuse; the development of a shared and coherent philosophy and understanding of domestic violence between child protection and domestic violence agencies. Workers identified three projects as best practice in interagency collaboration:
* 1. The ‘Innovations Collaborative Practice’ Project – CYFS Woodville District Centre and Western Domestic Violence Service (WDVS);
* 2. The ‘Strong Families, Safe Babies (SFSB)’ Project – CYFS and Central Eastern Domestic Violence Service (CEDVS);
* 3. The ‘Maternal Alienation’ Project – Northern Metropolitan Community Services, Women’s Health Statewide and the University of Adelaide.
