Children in this study were viewed as the experts on their own experience, reflecting the philosophy of Dawn House that children are clients of their service in their own right. Children from a mix of backgrounds and aged between the ages of 5 and 12 years participated, including urban indigenous children, remote and interstate children and recently-arrived refugee children. Group processes, art, music and vignettes were used in the research. The children wrote two songs during the process and these were recorded for them. The report contains the ethical considerations and research methods used, and makes 15 recommendations for improved service to children experiencing domestic violence. The attached literature review refers to national and international research which shows the coexistence of different types of abuse occurring often within the one family. It concludes with ideas for models of integrated service.
