Notes:  This report is the product of a series of focus group meetings conducted in the US by the Women of Color Network for women of colour activists working in the fields of domestic violence, sexual assault and child welfare. Investigation of the literature shows that women from racial and ethnically diverse communities face greater difficulties accessing domestic violence and child abuse services, and in an attempt to overcome these problems, the Women of Color Network is seeking to engage service providers in a dialogue to improve outcomes for these clients. The report presents eight recommendations designed to help domestic violence and child welfare agencies overcome the barriers that institutional racism sets up for clients from racially and ethnically diverse communities.
