Notes:  "Report 1 in a series of reports prepared for the National Symposium on Alcohol Misuse and Violence"
Presents the process, findings and conclusions of one in a series of reports commissioned by the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NCADA) to provide information on the incidence, prevalence, patterns and levels of alcohol use and its relationship to violent behaviour, both in the public and private domain. Whilst the report was primarily intended as a background paper for the Alcohol Misuse and Violence Symposium convened by the NCADA, its utility extends to a range of professional and practice settings. The report examines both existing literature and the results of research conducted in the course of its preparation, such as community perception surveys and consultation with professionals in the area of alcohol abuse and criminology. National and international comparisons are drawn and some of the specific trends associated with particular cultural and ethnic groups are raised. A series of recommendations based on the report’s tentative conclusions is also provided.
