This study examines the barriers met by non-English speaking background women when accessing the private rental market, and develops strategies to address the issue. Some of the structural barriers identified are: limited financial capacity, language barriers, availability of housing information, access to tenancy services, legal barriers, discrimination, housing availability and security of tenure. Tenancy service providers and real estate agents also mentioned women’s cultural behaviour and unawareness of their rights and responsibilities as difficulties they have encountered in providing assistance. Specific recommendations are suggested to overcome the current obstacles.
