Notes: | This consultation paper, launched by the Commonwealth Advisory Committee on Homelessness in 2001, intends to achieve a coordinated response from government and community programmes to effectively assist disadvantaged people. An overview of homelessness in Australia and suggested approaches are presented in twenty sections. The topics are grouped in three areas: factors that contribute to or prevent homelessness, population groups and service delivery. The contributing or preventing factors examined are employment, income security, housing, family relationships, community support, health, disability, drugs and alcohol, and criminal justice and correctional systems. Population groups are classified by age, cultural background, location and specific needs. Each section mentions the agencies and practitioners involved, related initiatives and areas for further research. |
