Notes:	"The Taskforce on Women and the Criminal Code was established by the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General Matt Foley MLA and the Minister for Women's Policy Judy Spence MLA in November 1998. The Taskforce was required to report and make recommendations to the Ministers on the operation of the Criminal Code as it impacts on women. This is the Report of the Taskforce." -- p.i. Reports on a consultative process about the Queensland Criminal Code and its impact on women. Subject areas included: women as accused; women as victims; and court practices and procedures. Violence against women was its major focus. The Taskforce examined specific legal issues such as the defences of provocation and self-defence, and their applicability in the context of women’s experiences, particularly battered women who kill. It found that women’s experiences of the criminal justice system, whether as victims or the accused, were for the most part negative and alienating. Almost 100 recommendations can be found in the Annexure.
