Report provides information about the Victorian Family Violence Database, which brings together data from Victoria Police, Victorian Courts and Victorian SAAP agencies. Over time additional data sources will be added to the Database. The Database is formally monitored by a Data Review Committee, coordinated by the Victorian Community Council Against Violence (VCCAV). Asserts that accurate, meaningful data collection, especially data concerning family violence, is essential to the development of effective policy and programmes. Identifies difficulties such as the incompatibility of data collected across agencies and the lack of uniformity about defining domestic violence. Recognises that limited data are available regarding ethnicity and same-sex relationships. Statistical analysis is provided in respect to the number of family victims of domestic violence, gender of adults involved, relationship between those involved, age, number of child victims, their age, and incidence of family violence by region.
