Report of the preliminary assessment of the effectiveness of the Learning to Relate Without Violence and Abuse (LTRWVA) Program, a mandatory 24-week education programme for men who use violence in their relationships, one component of the ACT Family Violence Intervention Program. The focus of the evaluation is on the effectiveness of the LTRWVA Program in reducing repeat offending and improving victim safety and its operation as part of a co-ordinated criminal justice response to family violence. The evaluation was hampered by methodological problems such as small sample size and insufficient time to assess the long-term impact of the programme. The assessment is based on the reports of programme participants, their (ex) partners, group leaders, probation and parole officers, DVCS and from analysis of data on re-offending.
