Title: | Policing domestic violence : own initiative investigation into the policing of domestic violence in the ACT |
Authors: | Australian Capital Territory Ombudsman |
Keywords: | Policing |
Year: | 2001 |
Publisher: | Australian Capital Territory Ombudsman |
Notes: | Adopting a ‘whole-of-policing’ approach, this report examines the policing of domestic violence in the ACT, in terms of both the law enforcement and community policing role of the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Focusing on the Woden Patrol Pilot project as a best practice model for policing domestic violence, the report provides a background to, and a description of, the investigation undertaken, followed by a discussion of issues raised by the pilot and a series of recommendations for reform. Those recommendations which have since been agreed to by the AFP are identified. An overview of issues falling outside the remit of the Woden Patrol, but of relevance to its success, such as communications, record keeping and legal support, follows the same format. Argues for the implementation of recommended best practice procedures across the ACT as soon as practicable. |
