Year: 2001
Publisher: NSW Health Department
Notes:  Provides a background to, description and discussion of the implementation and subsequent evaluation of a routine domestic violence screening project in two NSW Area Health Services - South Eastern Sydney and Macquarie. Conducted over a six month period, the project aimed to routinely screen female patients of accident and emergency, antenatal, drug and alcohol and mental health services for domestic violence and to develop and refine education, training and referral processes for identified cases. Details of participating services, an outline of the evaluation process and outcomes and a discussion and analysis of those outcomes, is presented. Findings indicate that women's response to the pilot project have been positive overall but that there is a continuing need for improving the education, training and resources available to health professionals and for addressing specific issues faced by particular groups and communities. Appendix includes surveys and questionnaires used for the evaluation.
