Notes:  Provides a statistical overview of services provided to clients of the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) in the year 1999-2000, the periods in which they received support and the funding arrangements for these services. The scheme was established in 1985 and aims to provide individuals who are homeless, or at risk or becoming homeless, with accommodation options that enhance, rather than impede, self-reliance and independence. The report is divided into 8 sections. Part One consists of a summary of the data collected, the aim of the research and the structures within which it was achieved. Part Two examines how resources available to the SAAP were allocated to specific areas of need. Parts Three and Four present an analysis of the lengths and types of support periods recorded. Parts Five and Six examine some of the reasons clients seek support from the SAAP and the kinds of services required. Part Seven compares the living arrangements of clients before and after their contact with the SAAP and Part Eight assesses the changes in client needs and situations since the 1996-97 report. Graphs and tables are used to illustrate throughout and the Appendix provides information relating to the methodology of the research, including copies of client forms and guides to interpreting the data. Reports that 57% of females with children and 44% of single females aged over 25 sought assistance mainly because of domestic violence.
