Notes:  General Overview:The United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime co-hosted an expert group meeting in Vienna, Austria from the 26-28 May 2008. This document is a report of their discussion.

The bulk of the group's work is contained in Part III which presents a comprehensive framework which may be used to develop, adopt and amend legislation designed to prevent violence against women, hold perpetrators to account and guarantee the rights of survivors of violence. The framework contains recommendations for the contents of legislation on violence against women followed by commentary which enlarges on the recommendations and gives examples of promising practices.

The list of documents included in Annex III includes downloadable papers and presentations by the expert group of participants, papers by observers and background papers used at this meeting.
