Authors: Women With Disabilities Australia (WWDA)
Keywords: Disability;Community education
Population: People with disability
Year: 2007
Publisher: Women With Disabilities Australia, Rosny Park
Notes:  Overview: The process and achievement of a project to create a resource manual for women with disabilities who are living with domestic violence are detailed in this report by Women With Disabilities Australia to the Commonwealth Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.

Discussion: In April 2006, Women With Disabilities Australia began a project with funding from the Commonwealth Office for Women, under the Domestic and Family Violence and Sexual Assault Funding Program. In this report, the authors detail the project rationale and aims in terms of an urgent need for education and information about domestic violence, specifically designed to be accessible to women with disabilities.

As final products, the project produced four ‘books’ in B5 format:

* ’It’s Not OK, It’s Violence’ Information Kit
WWDA included a Feedback/Evaluation Form to accompany the booklets, so to ascertain what elements worked well for users.

The report mentions a number of unexpected and unanticipated outcomes to the project. These include Family Planning NSW using the manual in its training of disability services workers and the Victorian Government also using the manual in its training of service providers in the domestic violence, sexual assault and disability sectors in that state. The project led to a national forum on violence and women with disabilities, hosted by the Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearinghouse in November 2007, as well as a Summit on Violence against Women with Disabilities hosted by the South Australian Office for Women’s Policy.
