Title: Final report of the Portsmouth Domestic Violence Early Intervention Project (EIP) Evaluation
Authors: Regan, Linda
Keywords: Screening;Early intervention
Year: 2004
Publisher: London Metropolitan University
Notes:  General Overview: :This UK report evaluates a project in which hospital staff screen patients for domestic violence and refer them to project workers who offer information, support, safety planning, referral and advocacy.

Discussion: :The project required staff in the Accident & Emergency, Maternity and Obstetrics/Gynaecology wards to screen all women over sixteen and all men where domestic violence was suspected. When domestic violence was disclosed, the patients were referred to the Early Intervention Project. The objective of the screening and referral was to reduce repeat victimisation. The report details the results of surveys of both hospital staff and clients. Hospital staff were supportive of the EIP but reported that screening had not become routine. Service users also supported the project and thought that screening should be routine. The report concludes with recommendations.
