This was a 12-month action research project funded by the Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services through the National Homelessness Strategy and the Queensland Department of Communities. It aimed to: document the models of service delivery operating in remote communities in North Queensland; to explore the strengths and weaknesses of the service responses to family violence in these remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; and to make recommendations with regard to developing sustainable service responses. It involved 12 Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP)-funded services across North Queensland. Findings related to: influencing policy; service system responses; resource development; training; industrial relations; organisations or service management; role of services; cultural matters; accessibility; support for services; viability and benchmarking; and alternative service delivery models.
