This report outlines the findings of a research project (funded by the South Australian Attorney-General’s Department Crime Prevention Unit), involving University of South Australia’s Conflict Management Research Group, the Jannawi Family Centre NSW, several community service agencies and South Australian schools. It highlights ways to assist children and their families to handle the effects of domestic violence. The project used an action research approach to clinically trial and evaluate the resources developed by the Jannawi Family Centre (NSW) for children directly affected by domestic violence and parents who have used violence in front of their children. The evaluation found that the 2 resource kits could be used for a range of settings and purposes (early intervention, prevention and therapy), provided the workers using the resources are: adequately trained, resourced, have professional skills in working with children and are committed to the kits’ theoretical approach. The Indigenous components were well received by all the children and workers involved.
