Notes:  Discusses the concept of restorative justice and examines the development of restorative justice programmes in each Australian State and Territory, highlighting key principles and characteristics of existing programmes, how they have been administered and the findings of any programme evaluations conducted. Available publications relevant to restorative justice initiatives in each State and Territory are also identified. The tendency for restorative justice programmes to be aimed at young offenders and the use of adult conferencing in a number of States are considered, before a more detailed analysis of restorative programmes in particular settings is provided. Key challenges that arise in the development and implementation of restorative justice programmes are identified and some ways in which these problems might be addressed are suggested.
