Outlines the rationale for, methodology and results of the Routine Screening for Domestic Violence Program, a policy initiative of NSW Health aimed at the prevention of domestic violence and early intervention through the provision of education and training. The findings of the study are contrasted with those of an earlier pilot project and it is suggested that while average screening rates in Area Health Services have improved, domestic violence remains undisclosed in a large proportion of cases. The assessment and intervention strategies adopted by participating health services varied and included reports to police and/or the Department of Community Services. Key issues raised by the research for NSW Department of Health, the Education Centre Against Violence and NSW Area Health Services are identified.
