Notes:  Provides a description and analysis of the manner in which the Southern Metropolitan Regional Steering Committee in Victoria was established and how it went out implementing the Family and Domestic Violence Crisis Protection Framework (CPF). The CPF is a Victorian government initiative aimed at providing guidelines for the delivery of crisis services to women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. Some background information on the project, the Southern Metropolitan area, existing crisis services and trends in police response to domestic disputes is presented and the existing service system in the area is assessed against the standards set by the CPF. Specific ways in which the service system was revised to meet these standards are then outlined, such as the incorporation of comprehensive risk assessment in the referral process, improved recognition of client diversity and the enhancement of service networking and coordination. The final section of the report presents some of the key issues that arise in implementing the revised service response, such as the need for improved communications.
