Abstract:  The aim of this chapter is to offer a conceptual framework for understanding intimate partner violence (IPV) and its impact on health based on a structural context that determines gender norms and hierarchies, as well as the intersection between various types of inequalities. Preventing IPV demands intersectoral work, where having a conceptual framework shared by all the sectors involved is the first step to having a clear picture of the mechanisms through which primary prevention interventions can be successful.
