During a two-year partnership that commenced in 1999, the Office of the Status of Women and the ACT Department of Education and Community Services explored methods of addressing the impact of domestic violence on students and families. An evaluation report and a teacher resource kit were the final results. The report is divided into five outcomes. The first looks into teachers’ and students’ attitudes to partner abuse, the problems met when dealing with it, and the effectiveness of the approaches. Outcome two focuses on a flexible curriculum that utilises accessible materials and community resources. The third outcome proposes an holistic strategy on violence prevention for high schools. The fourth result refers to the training programme and resource pack for teachers. Finally, outcome five mentions the teachers and community educators involved. The teacher resource kit is provided separately and contains suggested lessons for students in Years Seven and Eight, terminology and specialised information.
