Queensland Government response to: Adjust our Settings: A community approach to address cyberbullying among children and young people in Queensland

Abstract

Overview<br/ ><br/ >Adjust our Settings paints a stark picture of the prevalence<br/ >and effects of cyberbullying among Queensland's childrenand<br/ >young people. While the majority of children and young<br/ >people do not report being subjected to bullying or<br/ >cyberbullying behaviour, a sizeable proportion of Queensland<br/ >and Australia's young people do report having suffered from<br/ >bullying and cyberbullying behaviours.<br/ ><br/ >The Queensland Government considers this level of bullying<br/ >amongst children and young people unacceptable, and<br/ >supports the view of the Queensland Anti-Cyberbullying<br/ >Taskforce that addressing the prevalence of bullying and<br/ >cyberbullying requires the whole community to support<br/ >children and young people as they engage with each other at<br/ >school and university, in the playground, on sports fields and<br/ >online.<br/ ><br/ >The Queensland Government has accepted or accepted inprinciple all 29 of the Taskforce's recommendations. Many actions and initiatives will require partnership with the Australian Government and other states and territories. Their support in progressing the initiatives will be sought as a priority.<br/ ><br/ >The Queensland Government will also urgently seek to engage<br/ >with social media companies and encourage them to partner<br/ >with governments to provide safer online platforms for<br/ >children and young people.<br/ ><br/ >This work will complement the efforts across government<br/ >to date to better protect our children and young people<br/ >and enhance their online experience.<br/ ><br/ >Creative Commons
