The interdependence of academic and police organisations and the importance of cooperation between ‘academia’ and ‘industry’ is highlighted and the need to move beyond the protectionist mentality of the past is emphasised. The paper concludes with a case study used to illustrate the critical importance of partnerships between various agencies involved in the prevention of violence.
