Part of a presentation delivered at the Department of Community Services 4th Domestic Violence Forum in September 2002, this paper examines the various ways in which domestic violence can impact upon and/or impede children’s development, from prenatal to adolescence. Research identifying certain factors that may ameliorate the negative consequences of exposure to violence is reviewed and some of the implications of current research in this area for future policy, programme and service development are discussed.
