Abstract: | This report presents the findings of the Special Commission of Inquiry into LGBTIQ Hate Crimes, focusing on unsolved homicides suspected of being motivated by hate crimes against members of the LGBTIQ community in New South Wales from 1970 to 2010. The inquiry investigates historical cases, the institutional responses by the NSW Police Force, and recommendations for future practices in addressing hate crimes against LGBTIQ individuals. Volume 1 covers the establishment of the inquiry, community engagement, and the social and cultural context of the hate crime deaths investigated. The report also critically examines investigative practices and provides a comprehensive review of NSW Police Force procedures. |
