Abstract:  This thesis examines decision-making processes in care proceedings involving domestic violence as a child maltreatment concern in the Children's Court of New South Wales. Using a qualitative methodology with a case study approach, it explores professional stakeholders' roles in assessing risk and developing care plans, highlighting the contested nature of domestic violence assessments and the emphasis on maternal protectiveness in judicial interpretations. The findings underscore the intersection of professional knowledge and interagency collaboration in court decisions concerning children's safety, with implications for policy and practice in child protection.
