Abstract:  This study examines batterer intervention programs (BIPs) across the United States, analysing their philosophy, structure, curricula, and program effectiveness. Through an anonymous web-based survey, 276 BIPs from 45 states provided insights into their operations, including court-mandated referrals, treatment modalities, facilitator characteristics, and the incorporation of cognitive-behavioural and psychoeducational approaches. The findings reveal significant variations in program delivery, widespread reliance on the Duluth Model, and a general lack of specialised interventions for different types of offenders. Despite the growing reliance on BIPs as a response to domestic and family violence, challenges such as limited multilingual support, financial constraints, and inconsistent adherence to state guidelines persist. The study highlights the need for improved standardisation, better integration with legal systems, and enhanced program evaluation to ensure effectiveness in reducing recidivism and supporting victim safety.
