Evaluation readiness, program quality and outcomes in men’s behaviour change programs

Abstract

This report examines the evaluation readiness, program quality, and outcomes of men’s behaviour change programs (MBCPs) in Australia. Conducted as part of an ANROWS research initiative, the study explores the effectiveness of MBCPs in reducing domestic and family violence, enhancing perpetrator accountability, and ensuring the safety of women and children. It includes a review of national and international standards, evaluation methodologies, and risk assessment tools. The report highlights systemic challenges such as inconsistent program standards, limitations in monitoring perpetrator outcomes, and the need for improved partner contact services. Recommendations focus on strengthening minimum program standards, developing national evaluation frameworks, and enhancing cross-sector collaboration to ensure MBCPs contribute meaningfully to violence prevention efforts.
