| Abstract: | This quarterly monitoring report tracks the implementation of the new coercive control offence under section 54D of the NSW Crimes Act 1900, which came into effect on 1 July 2024. Drawing on NSW Police data from July 2024 to March 2025, the report provides a breakdown of 224 recorded coercive control incidents, including the types of controlling behaviours recorded, co-occurring offences, demographic profiles of victims and offenders, and regional variation. It also details legal outcomes, such as charge rates, prosecution progress, and use of Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs). The majority of victims were women and 10% identified as Aboriginal. Only five coercive control charges had been laid by the end of March 2025. The report supports ongoing accountability and system monitoring following the introduction of this legislative reform. |
