Compiled by the NSW Child Death Review Team, this report provides a summary of the information collected by the Child Death Register in 2002. Chapter 1 examines the history and purposes of the Child Death Review Team, their key functions and how these functions compare with similar bodies internationally. The methodology used to identify patterns and trends is described in Chapter 2. The following chapters describe and analyse the data collected with respect to incidence, prevalence, geographic distribution and major causes of death. The particular role of the Review Team where child abuse/neglect was the cause of death is discussed and the previous recommendations of the Team which have or have not been followed are reviewed.
