Notes:  Twenty-one-minute video produced by National Film Board of Canada. Follows the story of Mark and Therese, two high school students in a relationship, characterised by verbal abuse and physical violence. The unfolding drama is a useful tool to initiate group discussions about the use and acceptability of violence in relationships, issues concerning responsibility for violence and signs of abusive behaviour. Mark and Therese’s friends observe a number of incidents culminating in a physical assault by Mark on Therese. The story highlights the importance of support and what friends can do to provide assistance. The story also focuses on the relationship between Therese’s friends Kelly and Benson, a relationship in which the couple have to negotiate respectful communication in response to Kelly’s putdowns of Benson. Contained within the video sleeve are a series of discussion questions and suggested activities to explore pertinent issues arising from the video.
