Abstract:  This report provides an updated analysis of the economic, human, and emotional costs of domestic violence in the United Kingdom. It revises findings from the original 2004 study and incorporates data up to 2008. Key findings include a reduction in the overall costs of domestic violence, from £23 billion in 2001 to £16 billion in 2008, attributed to decreases in the rate of domestic violence and improved utilisation of public services. The report highlights three major areas of costs: public services (£3.8 billion), lost economic output (£1.9 billion), and human and emotional costs (£9.9 billion). It demonstrates the cost-effectiveness of public service investments in reducing domestic violence's broader economic and societal impact.
