Abstract:  This report examines current screening and risk assessment practices for domestic and family violence (DFV) perpetration in key service systems, including mental health, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), corrections, and child protection. Despite reforms aimed at improving responses to DFV, gaps remain in identifying and managing perpetrators' risk. The study, funded by the Criminology Research Grant and conducted by the Australian Institute of Criminology, employs a mixed-methods approach combining surveys and focus groups with practitioners across Victoria and Queensland. Findings reveal limited and inconsistent screening for DFV perpetration, highlighting the need for improved training, organisational commitment, and integrated risk assessment frameworks. The report provides policy and practice recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of screening and risk assessment, ensuring service systems contribute to perpetrator accountability and victim-survivor safety.
